Your Safety and Wellbeing

At True Homecare, we know how important it is to find a company you can trust to offer care. Not only do we offer in-home care, but we also offer general advice to keep yourself as safe and well as possible at home. Here, we’re providing guidance for your overall wellbeing.

Taking Medicines Safely
Taking your medications as prescribed is absolutely crucial. It ensures your medicines work as intended, your medical conditions don’t get any worse and to help mitigate side effects. Our team are trained to support you in taking your medications as prescribed.

It’s important for you to take the time to learn about your medicines. You should know:
• The name of the medicine
• What it does
• How long it should take to feel the effects?
• How it should be taken and for how long
• What foods, drinks and other medications should be avoided while you’re taking your medicines
• What are the possible side effects? When should you contact your doctor?

Some conditions require a significant number of medications, and this can feel a bit overwhelming. If you’re worried that you’re taking too many medicines, too much of a certain medication or you need reassurance, contact your GP so they can perform a prescription review.

Eating and Drinking Well
Nutrition is a really important facet of your overall health. Ensuring you’re well hydrated and eating enough can help you avoid symptoms like light-headedness, which can increase your risks of falls and injury.

Diet is also a key factor in avoiding certain long-term illnesses (such as type-2 diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease) and managing other long-term conditions.

At True Homecare, our team are trained in all aspects of your care so we will work with you to support a nutritious diet to ensure you’re as healthy as possible.

Staying Steady and Tackling the Fear of Falling
We can’t completely eliminate the risk of falling but there are steps we can take to mitigate it and ensure you’re feeling safe at home. Some tips to reduce the risks of falls include:

  • Eating and drinking enough
  • Looking after our overall health (including eye tests to be certain you can see clearly)
  • Keeping your home safe and implementing any safety measures necessary
  • Seeking the care and support you need
  • Move safely around the home. Take your time and avoid sudden movements and rushing as this can throw off your balance
  • Remove hazards from your home
  • Take extra care while washing, dressing and taking the stairs
  • Be aware of the side effects of your medications
